AERT Announces Second Quarter 2010 Results
$1.3 Million Net Income

SPRINGDALE, Ark., Aug. 2, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:AERT) announced today that sales for the quarter ended June 30, 2010 were $23.2 million, up 5% from $22.1 million for the second quarter of 2009. Increased MoistureShield distribution and acceptance of new products contributed to the sales growth.

Second quarter gross margin improved 2.4 percentage points for 2010 over 2009 as tight cost control continued.

Selling and administrative costs for the quarter increased by $0.5 million or 1.3 percentage points of sales primarily due to increased promotional expenses.

The company recorded operating income of $2.5 million, a $0.3 million improvement over the quarter ended June 30, 2009. Last year a $0.3 million reversal of a late registration fee was recorded, increasing net income to $1.3 million, the same as the net income for the quarter ended June 30, 2010.

Commenting on the results, Joe Brooks, CEO of AERT noted, "A key goal for 2009 was to reduce AERT's overall cost structure and operating costs while maintaining our ability to react to market opportunities. We continue to work on this in 2010 and while our new recycling facility at Watts, Oklahoma is up and running we are implementing Phase II to effectively double it's capacity with the assistance of a 15 year, 3% interest loan for over $3 million sponsored by the State of Oklahoma under the ARRA State Energy Program."

AERT Announces First Quarter 2010 Results
Net Loss Reduced; Operating Income Achieved on Slightly Lower Sales

SPRINGDALE , AR , July 15, 2010 (GlobeNewswire) – As Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (AERT) enters its third decade, a new chapter unfolds with the opening phase of your company’s new Green Age Plastic Recycling and Waste Minimization Facility near Watts, Oklahoma . We are proud of the fact that this new Green Age facility is the first Silver LEED certified facility of its kind in the U.S. It also allows AERT to successfully complete its mission of digging deeper into the plastic waste stream to convert a wider range of low end plastic film materials into valuable lower cost raw materials. Watts is the culmination of an earlier vision for the future and over five years of focused research and work. From this next generation technology, six U.S. patents are currently pending in regard to plastic resin identification and reformulation technologies and systems. We are also proud of the fact that these systems were initiated and commercialized during the worst economic mess since the Great Depression. We are very thankful that our shareholders, lenders, vendors, customers, and creditors supported AERT through this extremely difficult period.  AERT’s situation exemplifies an old adage, “Tough times never last, but tough people do.” There is also a simple fact about recessions: They always end!

fINANCING

AERT is a recycling/waste minimization company and therefore qualifies for up to $100 million of tax exempt financing versus $10 million of industrial revenue bonds for a manufacturing company under the U. S. Tax Code. Adair County , OK is an enterprise zone and it is 35 minutes from Springdale, AR. The State of Oklahoma awarded a $13.5 million tax exempt allocation to AERT along with additional incentives from other government agencies and the Cherokee Nation to build the plastic recycling facility there. Additional stimulus assistance has also been awarded to AERT to further expand this facility. AERT is very appreciative of the support it has received from all involved to help build and start up the new Green Age facility in Oklahoma .

AERT has recently paid down and restructured its short term debt with Allstate and has maintained its long term bond programs.  The one year debt service reserve funds for the Allstate bond programs were utilized, with Allstate’s consent, to keep payments ongoing during this difficult period. AERT is very appreciative of Allstate’s ongoing support of the company. Liberty Bank of Arkansas has also continued to work with the company and its debt has been restructured and reduced over the past year.  With AERT overhead reduced and the company now cash flow positive and profitable, the company is looking to refinance and recapitalize longer term.  AERT management has extensively explored a wide range of options and numerous financing proposals have been reviewed and evaluated over the past two years, during this time of difficult credit, and positive progress is being made. With the Green Age project, customer diversification will be improved which lessens the seasonality aspects of the current business and will improve year round cash flow.  AERT is now working to restructure and refinance towards a growth mode on fair and equitable terms for its shareholders.

why watts

The Watts Green Age facility is designed to insulate and hedge AERT against rising petrochemical and plastic prices by utilizing low cost plastic waste streams that are too difficult and costly for others to recycle.  With AERT technology, the company is able to clean and process large volumes of inconsistent and highly variable plastic waste, analyze it, and then blend it back together into useable forms. In this way, AERT is working to secure more cost effective raw materials and to avoid being forced into the position of having to outbid those with deeper pockets and more financial resources for plastic feedstocks. With the recent release of $3 million from the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, phase II will be initiated. Phase II includes the installation of commercial production and pelletizing equipment which will allow AERT to process and/or to sell recycled plastics to third parties and gain additional non-seasonal income.

REGAINING MOMENTUM

The AERT team has hunkered down and fought hard to maintain the business and its customer base during the last several years.  Your company has endured much over the last several years; from the homebuilding depression to the banking/credit crisis, to resolving class action allegations over deck cleaning issues.  Facilities have been closed and consolidated and headcount reduced, while new products have been launched and the “Green Age” project commenced.  Change and innovation remain constants as your company works to bring online several large customers along with new and exciting products and technologies for the future. So, we are proud to report that AERT is on the move again – the momentum is back.

Competing in a New World

“Whether you prevail or fail, endure or die, depends more on what you do to yourself than on what the world does to you.”          -Jim Collins, author

Why the Mighty Fall: And Why Some Companies Never Give In

The last three years have been extremely difficult and several competitors have exited the business. Tough decisions have been made regarding plant closures, asset write-downs, and a NASDAQ delisting.  We understand this has been painful, but we do not believe AERT’s current share price properly reflects the reality of AERT.  To expand on this a little bit more, let’s look back at 2008 write downs as disclosed in AERT’s 10K.

Assets have been moved from the Louisiana facility to Lowell , Arkansas and assets of value from the Junction, Texas facility are being put into service in Arkansas and Watts, Oklahoma . The Junction land and buildings will shortly be offered for sale. We also have an off-balance sheet asset of approximately $20 million representing the value of taxes that will not have to be paid on future earnings. Deferred taxes were written off in 2008 as AERT followed the accounting rules for a company whose future looked cloudy and uncertain.  In 2009, cash flow from operations was increased and profitability from operations restored.  So, renewed profitability and utilization of the company’s loss carry forwards will create cash for growth.   The deferred tax write offs have not been lost, just delayed to the future while your AERT associates readjusted and fought through the storms.  The fact that AERT net income for the second quarter is over $1 million and the company is profitable for the year positively reflects the progress at your company.

Customer and Product Diversification

AERT is fast becoming a more diversified company with new technologies and products rapidly transitioning to commercialization.  With the recycling of plastics from large volume national retailers to producing mainstream green products, AERT is a national example of “closing the loop”.  Sustainability is much more than a term to AERT; it’s the future of this company as well as the U.S. economy.  It is regaining a competitive advantage, conserving resources, creating jobs, and providing value.  With AERT’s focus on remodeling, utilizing recycled plastics in composite products allows our products to provide a better value than our competitors.  It also enables the company to expand into other markets and helps address consumer needs, providing value for their hard earned purchasing dollars.  In particular, next generation materials are now underway and several exciting new products were introduced this year, including a value added decking profile which combines performance and price, the MoistureShield Vantage collection and a new ChoiceDek handrail system for Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores nationwide.  EcoShield deck tiles, which debuted in early 2009, began streamlining into independent distribution late in the 4th quarter of 2009 and have gained momentum in the market during the first two quarters of 2010.  Furthermore, new recycled plastic compounds have opened additional market opportunities for the company to supply “green compounds” to other manufacturers and further diversify the customer base in the near future.  This will shortly become reality with the addition of phase II equipment at the Watts Green Age facility, funded by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Stimulus Funding

AERT is pleased to have been ranked the #1 stimulus business project for the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) State Energy Program for the State of Oklahoma . After extensive review, AERT was recently awarded a 15 year, 3% interest loan for over $3 million for additional production and pelletizing equipment for the Watts project.  A smaller $250,000 grant approval for Adair County, Oklahoma was also approved for AERT to help expand plastic recycling throughout the region.  We are proud to announce that these funds were recently released by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.  Additional projects and potential funding are also pending, although not final yet.

EXCITING NEW TECHNOLOGIES

In particular, AERT sees a tremendous future in Watts’ Green Age technologies and systems for green manufacturing and recycled green plastic compounds, allowing for a competitive advantage not only throughout the U.S. but also around the world.  There are tremendous opportunities to put consistency into recycling.  The Oklahoma Department of Commerce (ARRP) funds now allow AERT to commercialize this for large customers.  This diversification strategy also now puts AERT in a better, more balanced position to refinance, as the company moves back into a growth mode. More on this will be discussed at the shareholder meeting.

NASDAQ

AERT has been in discussions with NASDAQ and has been informed that a NASDAQ small cap market, NasdaqBX, is currently pending approval before the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  It is the intent of AERT to work with NASDAQ to join this new exchange designed for smaller growth companies once it is formally approved by the SEC.  AERT currently trades on the OTC bulletin board.

 MOVING FORWARD WITH BLUELINX

2010 marks the end of AERT’s 16 year relationship with Weyerhaeuser.  We would like to thank Weyerhaeuser for their past business relationship and instrumental role in launching the ChoiceDek program with Lowe’s.  As AERT moves forward, we now enter a new relationship with BlueLinx (formerly Georgia Pacific Distribution), and look forward to moving the ChoiceDek program to new heights with more timely and expanded distribution for Lowe’s stores.  BlueLinx also has expanded regional distribution for AERT’s MoistureShield program, and will be stocking AERT decking products at most locations.  This allows for quicker service and support for our retail remodeling customers and allows AERT to favorably compete against the competition going forward.

MOVING FOWARD

Although the past couple of years have been painful, your AERT associates have hunkered down and worked hard. As such, AERT has weathered a horrific storm of events and is proudly still standing. AERT is growing stronger by the day and is now on the move again.  Our annual shareholder meeting will be held Thursday, July 15th, 2010 at 5 p.m. at AERT’s corporate office in Springdale .  We hope you will join us for this exciting event.  It will also be webcast at http://aert.com/ir/webcasts.aspx .  Thank you for your support of AERT. We look forward to seeing you in person or joining us on the web for the Springdale meeting.

AERT Announces First Quarter 2010 Results
Net Loss Reduced; Operating Income Achieved on Slightly Lower Sales

SPRINGDALE, Ark., May 17, 2010 (GlobeNewswire) -- Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:AERT), a leading plastic recycler and manufacturer of Green building products, announced today that sales for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 were $16.4 million, down 2% from $16.6 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009. This was due primarily to the removal of an old style of ChoiceDek handrail and the replacement of a new ChoiceDek handrail system in Lowe’s stores nationwide, resulting in an unusually large amount of returns. AERT expects the new handrail products, combined with fully stocked shelves, to result in increased sales of handrail products in 2010. Without the returns of discontinued handrail, net sales increased $0.8 million, or 5%.

Cost of goods sold was lower in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the first quarter of 2009 due to cost-cutting measures implemented in 2009. Lower costs in 2010 resulted in an increase in gross margin as a percentage of sales to 19% in the first quarter of 2010 from 16% in 2009.

SG&A costs were down $0.6 million in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the first quarter of 2009. The company recorded operating income of $0.5 million for the quarter on reduced sales, an improvement of $1.0 million from a loss of $0.5 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009. AERT’s net loss was reduced by $1.2 million in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the first quarter of 2009.

AERT Announces the Launch of Haitian Green Partners on 40th Anniversary of Earth Day

SPRINGDALE, Ark., April 22, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:AERT), a leading plastic recycler and manufacturer of Green building products, announced today that on the occasion of Earth Day, Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (AERT), James Lee Witt Associates, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and Haiti Recycling have launched Haitian Green Partners, an environmental initiative focused on recycling and waste processing in Haiti. The initiative, which builds off of AERT's twenty-five years of recycling experience in the United States, and Haiti Recycling's knowledge of Haitian markets, will support and significantly expand current waste management initiatives in Haiti.

AERT CEO, Joe Brooks, further explains, "The initiative, which was requested by U.N. Special Envoy Bill Clinton, will also build upon and support projects already underway such as the Love N' Haiti movement (http://www.lovenhaiti.com) which was a finalist in last year's BBC World Challenge. The plan calls for the establishment of strategically placed collection and baling centers throughout the island and adjacent to the ports, to purchase recovered plastics and then transfer them to Haiti Recycling, which is located adjacent to Port-au-Prince, for recycling. AERT, in conjunction with other large volume manufacturers, will then purchase the materials and convert them into value added end products."

Regarding this new venture, Stephan Sajous, President of Haiti Recycling, said, "For the first time in the Caribbean, a concerted effort will be orchestrated in order to eliminate the very big problem of plastic contamination of the environment. Through this initiative, Haiti in very little time will return to being known as 'The Pearl of the Antilles' for its natural beauty. This initiative will create hundreds of sustainable jobs while helping to clean up trash from Port-Au-Prince, other urban centers, and in all ten departments. Recycling and waste management are key components to the recovery process, and this venture is an example of a for-profit solution that will promote environmental responsibility and take important steps to providing a waste management infrastructure that reduces pollution across the country."

"Haitian Green Partners is an example of the efforts underway in Haiti to 'build back better.' Through this initiative, Haiti and the surrounding Caribbean islands can become global leaders in protecting and preserving the environment while creating jobs for the Haitian people," concluded James Lee Witt Associates CEO, James Lee Witt.

Haitian Green Partners will also have the capability to recycle used sandals and other PVC products in order to produce new sturdy sandals for men, women and children. For more information visit http://www.haitispecialenvoy.org/press/celebrating-earth-day

Photo Release -- AERT's New Green Age Recycling Facility in Oklahoma Receives Silver LEED Certification
Another First for AERT, Oklahoma, and the U.S.

SPRINGDALE, Ark., April 22, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:AERT), a leading plastic recycler and manufacturer of Green building products, announced today that its new Green Age Recycling Facility recently received silver certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program operated by the U.S. Green Building Council.

AERTs Silver LEED Certified Watts Facility

A photo accompanying this release is available at http://www.globenewswire.com/newsroom/prs/?pkgid=7363

"Gaining LEED certification for the new plant is a significant milestone for us," said Joe Brooks, CEO of AERT. "We are very pleased to be one of the ten facilities in Oklahoma and the only plastic reclamation facility nationwide to achieve LEED certification. Going through the LEED process has taught us a lot about how we should evaluate buildings for our use and it has also given us a new appreciation for the products we produce for others' use in their Green initiatives."

"Buildings and building sites are a prime example of how human systems integrate with natural systems," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. The AERT project efficiently uses our natural resources and makes an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will tremendously benefit future generations to come. According to Fedrizzi, "The Advanced Resource Recovery Plant's LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership. The urgency of USGBC's mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and AERT serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish."

The AERT Green Age facility, also known as the Advanced Resource Recovery Plant, achieved LEED certification for energy use, lighting, water conservation and recycling, and materials recovery, as well as for incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. AERT worked with Crossland Construction to build what is the first LEED certified plastic recycling facility in Oklahoma and the United States. By using less energy and water, LEED certified buildings save money for businesses and taxpayers, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a healthier environment and economy for workers and the larger community.

"Another aspect of this plant's contribution to energy and the environment is what we do here," said Al Drinkwater, Sr. Vice President for AERT. "The new plant is capable of reclaiming up to 500,000 pounds of polyethylene scrap per day. The energy and environmental impacts of recycling polyethylene are enormous. Each pound of polyethylene recycled saves enough energy to run a 100 watt light bulb for 100 hours. Not only do we have a building and site that have been developed in an energy and environmentally responsible manner, we are also contributing to sustainability by doing what we do every day," stated Drinkwater.

2009 continued to be a challenging year for the building materials industry and for AERT, marked by lower sales to distributors who maintained low inventory levels, and a decline in sales at the retail level. However, efforts to reduce costs and improve manufacturing efficiencies enabled the company to overcome lower sales and record net income for the year, before a $5.1 million class action lawsuit accrual.  In addition, despite lower sales, AERT achieved an increase in gross margin of 73% YOY.

Commenting on the company’s 2009 results, AERT CEO, Joe Brooks, stated, “2009 was a difficult year for the company, but regardless of economic challenges, AERT reduced its operating loss and increased gross margin significantly YOY.  In 2009, operations and manufacturing continued to improve over prior periods, positive cash flow from operations was regained, the class action deck cleaning settlement was brought to closure, and in the second quarter, profitability was re-attained.  AERT commenced operations at its Green Age recycling facility in Watts, Oklahoma this month and the company is beginning to gain additional sales momentum going into the decking season.  New and innovative ChoiceDek products were recently shipped to Lowe’s stores nationwide and a new reversible MoistureShield deck board was just introduced.  A new LifeCycle EcoShield deck tile product made from plastics obtained from the country's largest retailer is slated to be introduced soon in select markets throughout the U.S.  In addition, plans for 2010 include new MoistureShield trim and fascia products and national distribution of MoistureShield products through a nationwide network of independent distributors.”

Brooks concluded, “Under the leadership of AERT President, Tim Morrison, and CFO, Brian Hanna, AERT's management team and associates have done an extraordinary job moving the business forward while launching new products and completing AERT’s Green Age recycling facility during the greatest economic unrest since the Great Depression.  With all of the positive developments taking place at AERT, the company is proud and excited to exhibit the true power of ‘Green’ and we are looking forward to what 2010 has in store."

The Company plans to release its fourth quarter earnings and 2009 Form 10-K on Friday, March 26, 2010 and will host a conference call and webcast on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, beginning at 4:00 p.m. (EDT), 3:00 p.m. (CDT) to discuss the results.  Webcast participation instructions will be forthcoming.

AERT's 2010 Letter to Shareholders

(GlobeNewswire) -- SPRINGDALE, Ark., Jan. 11, 2010-- AERT, Inc. (OTCBB:AERT):

Dear Shareholders,
On behalf of AERT and its Board of Directors, management team, and associates, I am writing to share with you information regarding various matters of interest and to communicate the many exciting opportunities I believe are in store for AERT in 2010. 2009 was a very challenging year for your company and difficult decisions had to be made. However, through the year AERT continued to focus on the future and made the tough decisions we believe were in the best interest of our shareholders. In 2009, operations and manufacturing continued to improve over prior periods, positive cash flow from operations was regained, the class action deck cleaning settlement was brought to closure, and in the second quarter, profitability was reattained. AERT President, Tim Morrison, and CFO, Brian Hanna, along with AERT's management team and associates, have done an extraordinary job moving the business forward in this extremely tenuous economic environment.

Building the Business
In 2010, new handrail products are planned for ChoiceDek, a new LifeCycle EcoShield deck tile product made from recycled plastics from the country's largest retailer will be introduced in select markets throughout the U.S., and recently a new reversible MoistureShield deck board was launched. In addition, new innovative MoistureShield trim and fascia products are planned for this year. 2010 is also expected to bring national distribution of MoistureShield products through a nationwide network of independent distributors. More information on these and other exciting new products and developments will be forthcoming as they unfold this spring. AERT will once again be exhibiting at the International Builders Show (IBS) on January 18th - 21st in Las Vegas, Nevada at booth N1831. Your sales associates will be showcasing new products as well as AERT's Green message, "The Truth About Green."

Advanced Resource Recovery Project (Watts, OK)
AERT's new plastic recycling plant is scheduled to start up in February. This plant is designed to further improve AERT plastic recycling efficiencies and reduce costs. But most importantly, it will help to insulate and hedge AERT against rising petrochemical costs by utilizing lower end mixed polyethylene plastics in combination with AERT plastic reformulation technologies. For example, one large source of waste is a mixed plastic and paper waste by-product of paper recycling operations. This by-product has been recycled in large quantities by AERT for several years, which has included separating a portion of the LDPE plastic for use and landfilling the unusable material at a considerable expense. The Watts facility will recover all of the plastic, increasing our yield while also cleaning the paper to make it available for resale to other manufacturers. Watts is also designed to recycle other low end waste plastics to help keep raw material costs down, and will allow for additional revenue streams of recycled plastics (Green) compounds in the future. This new facility exemplifies AERT's core raw material recycling strategy and should allow AERT to maintain margins while continuing our Green mission. As the economy strengthens and petrochemical prices rise, this will be a strong, positive differentiator for AERT.

AERT's Common Stock Listing
AERT recently transitioned its common stock listing from the Nasdaq Capital Market to the OTC Bulletin Board, which is also operated by Nasdaq. The OTC Bulletin Board currently lists 3,319 securities and, for many companies, has replaced the former Nasdaq small cap market on which AERT was traded for most of its history. Due to the large amount of extraordinary non-cash charges and write-downs over the last two years, AERT was placed in a very challenging situation in 2009. AERT worked closely with the Nasdaq stock market and its Listing Qualifications Panel in '09 and presented a plan to regain compliance by the end of last year. The Panel supported AERT and accepted its plan to regain profitability in 2009; however, due to a larger than expected influx of class action claims in the final weeks of the claim period and the resulting additional accruals, the plan proved not to be attainable by the end of the year. AERT management believes it was in the best interest of our shareholders to transfer to a different stock exchange rather than severely dilute existing shareholder equity or execute a reverse stock split under current market conditions in order to maintain the national Nasdaq listing. With the company growing stronger and gaining momentum, and with the new products and facilities coming online, we thought it best to regain AERT's growth, maintain profitability, and recapitalize at a time more favorable for AERT shareholders. This was not a decision that was made lightly, but again we believe it was in the best interest of all shareholders. Thinking Outside the Box
As we move forward with AERT's streamlined overhead structure, the company continues to maintain a good working relationship with its customers, bankers, creditors, and vendors. We continue to evolve and restructure as AERT works to refinance. Additional information will be reported as it is finalized. AERT's partners continue to work together to assist the company during this difficult period and to grow AERT's business for the benefit of everyone involved. In closing, there is an old adage that says, "Tough times never last, but tough people and tough companies do." With this letter, all of us at AERT wish to thank you for your investment and your support. We are excited and looking forward to what 2010 has in store. At AERT, we believe in America and the resilience of Americans and the American economy. Your company is now positively positioned to become a national example of the true power of "Green." It is our continued commitment to do all we can to generate strong cash flows and solid net income, to honor our agreements, and to build value for you, our loyal shareholders.

Very truly yours,
Joe G. Brooks
Chairman & CEO

Photo Release -- AERT World Class Plastic Recycling Project Nearing Startup

(GlobeNewswire)--SPRINGDALE, Ark., Nov. 19, 2009--Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:AERT), a leading plastics recycler and manufacturer of Green building products, recently announced that construction of the initial phase of its state of the art, world class plastic recycling facility near Watts, Oklahoma is nearing completion and is scheduled to start up in the first quarter of 2010. The company has also filed for LEED certification and anticipates that the Watts facility will soon be the first LEED certified recycling facility in Oklahoma. The initial phase will be focused on recycling low end, highly contaminated waste polyethylene films into bulk plastic feedstocks for AERT's composite manufacturing plants in Arkansas.
                                                                                           Watts Press Release Image
Upon startup of the facility, the company will promptly move into second stage construction whereby additional storage and equipment will be installed to allow recycled polyethylene plastics to be blended and reformulated into Green recycled plastic resins. These resins will be sold to third party manufacturers for ever increasing sustainable and recycled content applications. Polyethylene plastic is one of the most under recycled resources in the American waste stream with only about seven percent recycled according to 2008 EPA statistics. AERT's new Watts plant will increase the national capacity for recycling polyethylene and simultaneously create American jobs. Recycling polyethylene plastic such as grocery bags, stretch wrap, and packaging material has significant energy and environmental impacts. Recycling one pound of low density polyethylene results in a savings of 30,099 British thermal units (Btu) of energy according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The polyethylene recycled at AERT's new reclamation plant during its first year of operation will result in saving an amount of energy equal to over 2.1 trillion Btu or the equivalent of the gasoline consumed in over 23,000 passenger vehicles. Greenhouse gas generation is also reduced as a result of recycling polyethylene. According to the EPA, recycling one ton of low density polyethylene results in saving 1.71 metric tons of CO2 equivalent. The greenhouse gas reduction created by the new plant is estimated to be equal to removing over 10,000 passenger vehicles from the road. The Watts recycling facility was funded by Allstate Investments with additional financial support from the Cherokee Nation, the State of Oklahoma, Adair County, local government entities, and the United States Departments of Commerce and Energy which helped provide site infrastructure support including road and sewer improvements for the area. "We are extremely appreciative of the involvement and commitment of all parties in helping move this project forward during this difficult economic period in our country's history," stated AERT CEO, Joe Brooks. "AERT's Watts project exemplifies the spirit and the 'can do' attitude of America, Oklahoma, and of AERT associates, and will shortly demonstrate to the world that recycling plastic will make AERT more competitive, hedge against future petrochemical related price increases, and save enormous amounts of energy. Practicing conservation and being Green and sustainable is simply common sense and it will contribute significantly to improve profitability for AERT in 2010," Brooks concluded.
